Architectural models of European countries. Paper cities: miniature creativity of a London designer

Creating city models is a fun activity. Hattie Newman, a designer and image maker from London, cuts out wonderfully detailed miniatures from ordinary colored paper, drawing inspiration from the architecture of many countries around the world.

Readers of the website Culturology.RF are already familiar with the work of Hattie Newman: the young designer, in tandem with photographer Matthew Brody, took part in the creation of the collection. The current project is the independent brainchild of the craftswoman.

Hattie Newman has been interested in modeling since childhood: at first she drew villages and cities, then began assembling them from Lego. The dream of becoming an architect did not leave the girl for many years, and she decided to enroll at the University of West England in Bristol. During my studies, I began experimenting with paper crafts for the first time and tried to give two-dimensional images a three-dimensional shape. Of course, the cheapest material for it was paper and cardboard, so the first dolls and “buildings” were made from this material.

The designer graduated from university in 2008 and moved to London. Here she began collaborating with a studio specializing in making decorations for window displays. Having earned some money, six months later she opened her own small studio in Stoke Newington. Today, Hattie Newman's work is in great demand; her clients include such well-known brands as Royal Mail, Cadbury, Sony, Louis Vuitton, NSPCC, Honda, GAP, Conde Nast, GQ, The Times.

The author of the three-dimensional architectural images was the artist Marc Hagan-Guirey, who works under the pseudonym Paper Dandy. Hagan-Geary became widely known after his first solo exhibition, Horrorgami, which took place at the London gallery One-And-A-Half in 2012. The exhibition was so popular with the audience that the management had to extend it for three additional months. The artist has collaborated with Samsung, Procter & Gamble and the London Transport Museum.
