Grandvalira route map

Encamp

The town of Encamp is located 7 km from the capital of Andorra (Andorra la Vella). There are no people in Encamp mining ski slopes, so skiing down to the city will not be possible. But from the town you can reach the top of Collada D’Enradort (2447 m) in just 20 minutes. On the modern Funicamp lift (cable car, 32 cabins for 24 people each).

I've been to this peak more than once. The views are beautiful. Halfway, the cabins make a stop in the Vall deis Cortals sector, where there is a school for beginner skiers. From the top of Collada D'Enradort you can easily reach the neighboring slopes of Pas de la Casa - Grau Roig with their blue and red slopes.

Encamp is the closest to the Andorran capital, so you will have the choice of either living in Encamp or Andorra la Vella. In the capital, of course, there is a little more choice of housing, but in Encamp you can find everything you like. Many skiers prefer to stay here, a 5-minute walk from the ski lift.

Hotels in Encamp >>

On the territory of Encamp there is a swimming pool, a gymnasium, a dance hall, and two tennis courts. For lovers of parties and discos, there is an excellent choice of entertainment.

From Encamp you can get to neighboring towns by mini-train, which passes through the city and Funicamp station, and goes further to the Grandvalira ski area. It runs 7 days a week until the end of the ski season, opening hours are from 8.30 to 18.00.

There is a free bus running inside Encamp that takes vacationers from their hotels to the funicular.

Canillo

The next ski resort is the village of Canillo. It is the central city of the parish (community) of the same name. It is located in the northeastern part of the country.

There is a lift going up from the city. His first stop is El Forn. There is a restaurant, a ski school and a kindergarten where you can leave your child while you ski).

Hoist-tug

The next point is Pic de la Portella (Portella, 2465 m). One black trail (steep slopes for experienced ones) and two blue trails (of medium difficulty) start from here.

Then a stop where the black trails begin. This is the peak of Encampadana pic D’Encampadana (2491 m).

From Encampadana you can take the ski lift to the Tossal de la Lossada slope. These are the picturesque slopes of Soldeo and El Tarter.

Canillo has a large selection of accommodation, branded sports equipment stores, bars and restaurants.

Hotels in Canillo >>

To get to Canilno, take the bus that runs every day from 7.00 to 22.00 from the capital of Andorra la Vella to Soldeu. The ticket will cost €3. By car the journey will take about 20 minutes.

Grandvalira ski pass holders have free travel on the skibus, which takes tourists to Canillo from Andorra la Vella and Pas de la Casa every 20 minutes.

Soldeo-El Tarter

After Canillo there are two small villages 3 km from each other - Soldeo and El Trat. They are connected by a common network of lifts. Thanks to this, the Andorran slopes and pistes merged into one large space.

This resort is best suited for beginner and intermediate skiers. It is famous for its schools for beginner skiers and its snowboard school.

For beginners, the Espiolets slope with wide, gentle slopes with rollouts onto a plateau is suitable. On their slopes there is a freestyle park, a half-pipe for snowboarders, and a Bababoom Circus track for the little ones.

For adrenaline junkies, there are black trails with virgin snow and icy steep slopes.

I saw how small children of 5-6 years old studied at the ski school. They came down the mountain in a way that I will never repeat. This is what it means to be taught a risky sport from childhood. The kids weren't afraid of the track at all.

  • In total at the resort:
  • Number of tracks - 52
  • The total length of the tracks is 92 km
  • Green (for beginners) - 10
  • Blue (intermediate) - 19
  • Red (difficult) - 13
  • Black (high difficulty) - 10
  • Trails for snowboarding, slalom, freestyle and cross-country skiing - 2 km

In Soldeu there is a specialist shop for skiers and snowboarders - Esports Calbo (next to the gondola lift). There is a large selection of clothes, equipment and gifts.

In summer Soldeo turns into favorite place recreation for golfers and lovers of trekking, cycling and hiking.

El Tarter is suitable for families with children and couples who prefer a relaxing holiday. There is a kindergarten, wellness center and bowling alley at the Nordic Hotel.

Here you can go ice skating, dog sledding or go exploring the bars of Soldeu, which are almost non-existent in El Tarter.

There are no problems with housing in the villages of Soldeo and El Tarter. There are good quality hotels with a wide range of services, as well as budget hotels, guest houses and B&Bs.

Hotels in the area of Soldeo - El Trat>>

From Andorra la Vella to Soldeo-El Tarter there is a service every hour. regular bus, fare is about 3 EUR.

By car from the capital, take the CG1 road towards Soldeo, Pas de la Casa and France. National bus routes pass through Soldeo, continuing on to Pas de la Casa and the French border. Unfortunately, there are no taxis in Soldeo; the nearest service is in the capital.

Pas de la Casa-Grau Roig

The last two resorts in Grandvalira - Pas de la Casa and Grau Rouge - are the most high mountain resorts in the Pyrenees. They, like Soldeo-El Trat, are combined into one zone, which consists of two valleys. The resort offers tourists a huge variety of ski slopes.

In the upper part of the Pas de la Casa valley, the slopes are intended for experienced skiers. Going lower, the slopes become flatter and are intended for intermediate skiers. At the bottom of the slopes of Pas de la Casa there is a slalom track and a night ski track.

For lovers of skiing in forested areas, there are trails in the Grau Roig valley. Fans of downhill skiing will find here a large selection of knurled and wide tracks in the area of the second and third valleys of Grau Roig. Thanks to well-designed trails, speed skating is not dangerous.

For snowboarders there is a Half-Pipe zone (40 m). Group lessons are offered for beginner snowboarders.

At an altitude of 2600 meters there is a Coll Blanc restaurant with panoramic windows. It offers stunning views of the French and Andorran Pyrenees.

The village of Pas de la Casa is always crowded, noisy and fun. There are a lot of shops with winter clothes and sports equipment. Large selection of restaurants, bars, discos. For families with children there are kindergartens. While you ride, your child will be looked after by professionals. In addition, there are aerobics and martial arts centers, dance halls, swimming pools, tennis courts, and mini-football. In the center of the city there is a skating rink on the square.

There are more than 50 hotels of different star ratings and services in Pas de la Casa. During hot seasons it is difficult to find a free room. So consider booking in advance.

Hotels in the area of Pas de la Casa - Grau Rouge>>

The only disadvantage of the Pas de la Casa - Grau Rouge resort is its remoteness from the center of civilization. This is the farthest resort in Andorra and it takes longer to get to it than to all other resorts in Andorra. But in 2002, a tunnel was built from Pas de la Casa to Pau Groig, which significantly improved and accelerated communication between the Pas de la Casa and Soldeu ski areas.

Sincerely,

The main pearl of Andorra is the ski resorts, which are located in two ski areas - Vallnord and Grandvalira.

👁 Before we start...where to book a hotel? In the world, not only Booking exists (🙈 for a high percentage from hotels - we pay!). I've been using Rumguru for a long time
skyscanner
👁 And finally, the main thing. How to go on a trip without any hassle? The answer is in the search form below! Buy now. This is the kind of thing that includes flights, accommodation, meals and a bunch of other goodies for good money 💰💰 Form - below!.

Although Andorra is a country of more than modest size, it has plenty of opportunities for recreation and entertainment. There are interesting sights in almost every locality of the country, but its main pearl is the ski resorts. All of them are located in two ski areas called Grandvalira and Vallnord. In the review we have prepared, we will talk about the features of the resorts located in these ski areas.

Grandvalira

This ski area is home to the major ski resorts of Pas de la Casa and Soldeu, as well as four smaller ones (Encamp, Grau Roig, El Tarter and Canillo). Total area occupied by the resorts is almost 1800 hectares, making it the largest in Andorra and one of the largest in Europe. These resorts were united to provide the possibility of purchasing a single ski pass. The total length of trails of varying difficulty is 190 km, the elevation difference is about a kilometer. 68 lifts take skiers to the tops of the slopes.

In the Grandvalira ski area there are pistes of varying difficulty, designated by different colors according to the international classification. There are 19 green slopes, 39 blue ones, 30 red ones and 24 black ones. As you can see, most of the slopes here are for mass skiing for skiers with an average level of training. You should know that the greatest steepness of the slopes is observed at the top of Tossal de Lallosada (2600 m), and the lowest at the foot.

Pas De La Casa Resort

At this ski resort, most of the tourists are quite spoiled. Located almost on the border with France, the resort is a complex of five dozen slopes, most of which are red (23). All of them are equipped with various types of safe lifts. Skating here is safe for any category of vacationers.

In addition to excellent trails and hotels, there are several very popular restaurants that are a must-see. We are talking about the steakhouse Gall De Bosc (Soldeu), Roc De Les Bruixes (Canillo), Llac De Pessons (Grau Roig) and of course El Raco Del Park. There are also several interesting attractions that can diversify your time.

Resort Soldeu – El Tarter

The ski resort of Soldeu rightfully occupies a leading place in the ranking of resorts in Andorra. This is due to the highest level of equipment on the trails. The name of the resort is due to the two villages that actually form it. Skiers of all skill levels can have a good time in Soldeu, and families with children can enjoy El Tarter.

The resort's pistes are mostly intended for beginner and intermediate skiers (green and blue pistes). There is also a special track for children.

Route map of the Soldeu – El Tarter resort

On the territory of this resort you can both rent and purchase a variety of ski equipment. The main stores with such products are Esports Calbo, Esports Calbo, Pic Negre and Loaded.

In addition to skiing and everything connected with it, in the resort of Soldeu - El Tarter you can purchase many goods at very low prices, since Andorra is a duty-free zone.

How much does a ski pass cost in Grandvalira?

A daily ski pass at this resort will cost 42 euros for an adult and 31 euros for a child. A six-day subscription will cost 221 euros/153 euros.

Vallnord

Like the previous one, the Vallnord ski area combines the Ordino-Arcalis and Pal-Arinsa ski sectors. In total, there are about 90 km of trails, most of which belong to the red and blue difficulty categories. In the Ordino-Arcalis sector there are 26 trails with a height difference of about 600 meters, and in Pal-Arinsa there are 63 with a difference of about a kilometer.

Ordino Arcalis

This resort is located three dozen kilometers from the capital of the principality, the city of Andorra la Vella. The slopes here are relatively gentle, maximum height is 2600 meters, the minimum is 1940 meters. The resort's pistes offer excellent opportunities for downhill racing on blue and red slopes. There are also the most difficult trails, black ones, which are popular among professionals.

The resort has a good selection of hotels, ranging from 4* to luxury cottages.

Pal-Arinsal

Like the previous resort, Pal-Arinsal consists of two centers, the name of which forms this combination. This resort is located ten kilometers from the capital of Andorra. The height of the resort above sea level is 1950 m. The total number of trails is four dozen, and lists of all difficulty categories are presented.

Also at the Arinsal resort there is the most difficult descent in the country - the height difference at the starting and ending points is a whole kilometer.

How much does a ski pass cost in Villanord?

One day of skiing at the Villanord ski resort will cost 38 euros for an adult and 28 euros for a child. A six-day pass will cost 176 and 133 euros respectively.

👁 Do we book the hotel through booking as always? In the world, not only Booking exists (🙈 for a high percentage from hotels - we pay!). I’ve been using Rumguru for a long time, it’s really more profitable 💰💰 than Booking.
👁 And for tickets, go to air sales, as an option. It has been known about him for a long time 🐷. But there is a better search engine - Skyscanner - there are more flights, lower prices! 🔥🔥.
👁 And finally, the main thing. How to go on a trip without any hassle? Buy now. This is the kind of thing that includes flights, accommodation, meals and a bunch of other goodies for good money 💰💰.

Arinsal is a famous ski resort. It is located in a wide valley at an altitude of 1550–2560 m and is surrounded on three sides by high mountains.

Such a difference in altitude makes this place a favorite resort for beginners and experienced skiers. Every vacationer will find a route to their liking here.

Now the resort is called Pal-Arinsal, because in 2000 a new ski lift was built between the two ski resorts - Pal and Arinsal.

Pal-Arinsal Andorra route map

Pal-Arinsal offers its guests 46 trails of varying difficulty. There are gentle and completely safe trails for beginners. They are usually always crowded.

There are also wide, long slopes on which you can reach great speed. They are perfect for people who are confident on skis.

If a skier wants to experience the thrill, he needs to go to really steep slopes.

The ski season at this resort begins in December and ends only in March. The ideal level of snow cover is maintained all the time on the slopes.

350 snow cannons successfully cope with this work, providing comfortable skiing in any weather. In addition, all slopes are turned to the north, so the snow here melts slowly.

There is almost no wind on the slopes: tall trees protect vacationers from it. They give this place a fabulous charm.

Arinsal is equipped with the most modern ski lift “Seturia”, the capacity of which reaches 500 people per hour. There are another 30 lifts that take tourists to any route.

Things to do in Arinsal

14 cafes, bars and restaurants located on the territory of the ski resort offer their services to vacationers. After a day on the snow-covered slopes, skiers can relax happily in one of the cozy establishments. If you have any energy left, you can go to the popular disco “Surf”.

On the territory of Arinsal there are 2 medical centers and a wonderful recreational area at the Princesa Parc Hotel. For a small fee, each vacationer can visit the gym, swimming pool, sauna, solarium or massage room.

In addition to skiing, guests of Arinsal can enjoy snowshoeing, snowmobile riding, ski biking or sledding. In summer there are also exciting activities here: you can go mountain biking or horse riding.

For children in Arinsal there is always a nursery, a children's club and a snow town.

Andorra has two large ski resorts: Vallnord and Grandvalira. "Vallnord" offers over 90 km of ski slopes, in "Grandvalira" the slopes are over 200 kilometers long. This allows us to consider Andorra the largest ski region Pyrenees. This is where we spent most of our time ski holiday.

You can climb the mountains from different places, but mostly tourists use the Funicamp cable car. It connects the town of Encamp, located 10 minutes' drive from the capital of the principality, with the upper slopes of the ski areas. "Funicamp" is located closer than other ski lifts to the city center.

Cable car The Funicamp, with a length of 6 kilometers, is considered one of the longest in Europe. It includes 32 cabins, each of which can accommodate up to 24 people. The cabin offers stunning views of the wild Pyrenees mountains as you ascend. The ride up by carriage takes about 25 minutes.

But don’t think that after each descent you will have to waste time going up again. You go up to the Funicamp once a day, and the ski area begins from here. All routes are shown in the diagram (Click on full size):

The main difference between this resort and the ski slopes of Russia (I compare it with the Elbrus region) is the complete absence of queues. The maximum time you stand in line is 5-10 minutes. The throughput is very high. The tracks are quite wide, and in Pas De La Casa they are no less than a football field wide.

There are a lot of different buildings. Here, for example, are snow igloos:

This is the situation inside. You can sit on the skins, drink hot tea or mulled wine:

There is even an ice hotel where you can spend the night. Everything there is made of ice. And beds and tables and stacks. People sleep on skins in sleeping bags. But the pleasure is not cheap.

There are a lot of lifts and they are different. There are chairlifts for 4 people:

Here are the cabins for 8 people:

For convenience during lifting, skis and boards are located outside the cabin:

Situation near the mountain cafe:

Don't mix up your equipment:

Some ride around in cool costumes. Tiger, bee and ladybug:

These tractors compact snow:

Andorra is considered a very comfortable ski resort with slopes for every taste and color. Therefore, here you can meet many children learning to ski.

Special snow park with jumps for snowboarders:

Everything was great except the weather. The famous “sunny” Andorra passed us by. There were, of course, sunny days, but in most cases I had to ride like this:

And like this:

On the first day, some tracks were closed earlier due to bad weather:

Frozen lake:

Somehow we found blue sky to take a photo:

Transfer station:

At each such station there is a route map:

In general, the route navigation is at the highest level. Everything is signed. It's impossible to get lost:

There are snow cannons located along almost all slopes.

They hardly worked with us - there was a lot of snow even without their work:

One of the cloudy days. It’s morning, there are few people on the ski lifts, the sun is just rising.

The trails are well-traveled:

It's time to take a selfie:

Ski resorts of Andorra - a map of picturesque slopes that have gained their fame due to the large selection of slopes and low cost of all types of entertainment. This region can easily compete with other ski resorts in Europe, becoming an excellent place for family or youth holidays.

Andorra ski resorts on the map

The rest of the time, the territory of the principality experiences sunny and clear weather with minimal precipitation and winds.

In the valley, right next to the ski lift stations, there are many cozy cafes and restaurants, where you can eat croissants and drink coffee. Also worth noting from the infrastructure is the opportunity to go not only skiing, but also ice skating, snowshoeing and snowmobiles.

In another sector - Ordino Arcalis there are 26 kilometers of ski slopes located at an altitude of 1940-2625 meters:

  • 2 black;
  • 8 red;
  • 8 blue;
  • 6 green;
  • 1 slalom.

Overall, it's great for fans of a wide variety of trails, from very steep and narrow to ski areas created by for children.

To avoid getting lost or injuring yourself on the slope, there are signs and markings everywhere, as well as safety fences.

Ordino Arcaliz is considered one of the most romantic regions of Andorra. Apart from incredible beautiful nature, there are a variety of attractions here: ancient castles, ancient mansions and Romanesque temple buildings. This magnificence is surrounded by snowy peaks, creating a wonderful picture of relaxation.

To the main benefits region include a wonderful microclimate, excellent service in hotels, as well as outside, developed infrastructure and budget option.

Tourism business in Ordino Arcalis in at dawn, so tourists are protected from natural disasters. Many hotels are located directly next to the ski lifts and have an official category of one to five stars.

Useful information

  • Almost all resorts in Andorra have Russian speaking instructors, so those who travel with children do not have to worry about decent education.
  • There is quite a bit of entertainment in the ski resorts, but in this part of Europe it is very popular shopping.
  • The advantage of shopping is that Andorra is a Duty-Free zone with prices lower than in its neighbor and France.

  • Andorran resorts are incredible popular tourists, so to get here at the end of December, tours should be booked at the beginning.
