Geographically small, but rich in heritage historical, cultural, natural character, Austria is the custodian of almost the only unique places in the world. Every city in the country - Vienna, Innsbruck, Graz and others - represents a harmony of nature and art.

The Swarovski Museum is impressive with its external beauty and internal content, which houses crystals listed in the Guinness Book of Records. Amazing architecture Old town- historic center of Salzburg, listed World Heritage UNESCO. It is interesting to get acquainted with the inhabitants of the oldest zoo in the world, Schönburn, opened in Vienna back in 1752. The picturesque landscapes of the Vienna Woods will not leave nature lovers indifferent.

In addition, only in Austria you will visit:

  • gorgeous vineyards;
  • thermal resorts;
  • medieval castles and monasteries.

You probably didn’t even realize how delightful and tempting little Austria is. But this is just a small part of what you can know about her. Don’t hesitate - go on a trip to any of the country’s towns and reveal all its secrets.

TOURISTS' ANSWERS:

I will tell you about two one-day excursions from Vienna, which I tried myself and consider to be definitely the best of those that a Russian-speaking tourist can afford. They are organized by the Seven Travel company, and you should be careful with it: it is quite possible that when selling a voucher for an excursion, they will promise you more than they will show you in the end. I purchased tours lasting 9 and 13 hours, which in reality lasted 8 and 12 hours, and many attractions that were designated as places for photo breaks ended up being shown to me while running from the bus window. It wasn't very pleasant.

Wachau Valley

The Wachau Valley is a special place, and even if it did not contain a single architectural monument, it would be worth visiting for its extraordinary landscape. It is called the “Road of Romantics”, as the landscape is truly unusual. It lies in a bend of the Danube between high hills, making it warmer than in neighboring lands. There are vineyards on the hillsides. The Riesling grape variety is grown here, which has gained worldwide popularity, but its homeland is Wachau (at least the locals are sure of this). Another great grape and white wine variety is Grüner Veltliner. I have never met him anywhere except in Austria. Wine should be tasted where its grapes grew and where it was produced, so these varieties are worth drinking here. The third attraction of Wachau is apricots. Locals consider them the sweetest and most fragrant on earth, but residents of Ukraine, for example, could easily argue with this statement.

The Danube current here is unusually fast, so swimming can be dangerous. But this is a real living river, and it is teeming with fish.

The valley is famous for two castles called Ackstein and Durnstein. In Ackstein there lived a robber knight named (just don’t laugh!) Shrek. According to legends, he was a real scoundrel: he kidnapped people, robbed ships passing along the Danube and even bathed in human blood. He planted the prisoners on a bare cliff above a cliff, which he called a “garden,” and the unfortunate slaves, “roses.” There people waited for a ransom to be paid for them. To be fair, it is worth noting that for the 10th - 12th centuries, to which the construction of Akstein dates back, Shrek’s antics are almost standard behavior. With the exception of bloody baths, of course, hygienic procedures, even in such a terrible ordeal, were little known to the knights.

On a one-day excursion, Ackstein, located on a steep cliff, can only be seen from a bus - climbing there would take a lot of time.

Dürnstein is the castle in which the Austrian Margrave Leopold Babenberg imprisoned Richard the Lionheart and released him only after receiving 30 tons of silver as a ransom. Now at the foot of the fortress lies the town of the same name, in which all construction ceased more than two hundred years ago. It is forbidden to demolish ancient houses, and they are endlessly restored, but there is simply nowhere to build new ones - that’s why the town has become such a tasty morsel for tourists.

Usually the guides stop here for lunch, but if you neglect the meal, you can try to climb up to the castle. The ascent along the path with stone steps takes about forty minutes, and from about halfway up this view opens up.

I neglected lunch, and therefore did not have time to climb to the very top.

Also, excursions to the valley include a visit to the monastery and the city of Melk. This is a grandiose baroque structure, at the foot of which lies a half-ancient, half-modern, but completely toy town. The program also includes the city of Krems, but they can only show it to you from the bus.

Salzburg

One day to visit this city is clearly not enough, but in order to get an impression and understand whether you need to come back here and rent a hotel to see everything properly, and just gaze from the bus window at fantastic mountains, it's worth going there. For example, from the window along the road you can see this picture:

Austria bewitches millions of tourists every year with its charms. It is in this small country that an atmosphere of comfort and hospitality, calm and harmony reigns. For those who love picturesque landscapes, historic towns and reconnecting with millennia-old cultural landmarks, Austria is a true source of magic. There are many delightful places here that are definitely worth visiting during your trip. Interesting places scattered throughout the country, so no matter which resort you choose to live in, there is something to see and do everywhere. Next we will talk about the most famous excursion routes.

1) St. Stephen's Cathedral, Vienna

This monumental structure of unprecedented beauty is located in the very heart of Austria, namely in its capital - Vienna. Nowadays, there are many routes when tourists end up in a certain city for just one day, and then go on to their next destination. It was during such a tour that I was lucky enough to get to know the capital of the country. This city cannot leave anyone indifferent, as there is an atmosphere of luxury and power in the air here. Vienna is rich in pompous palaces, colorful streets and squares, and all this is decorated with the famous Vienna Woods.

As for the cathedral, it is rightfully considered the hallmark of the city and the national symbol of the entire country. The first version of the temple was built on this site back in 1137, and the cathedral began to take on its current appearance starting in 1511. Studying every corner of the cathedral, you come to the conclusion that the craftsmen put their whole soul into their work. There are not enough epithets to describe the beauty and grandeur of what we saw, so it’s definitely worth a visit holy place to be imbued with the grace that reigns within these centuries-old walls. For example, there are 18 altars in the temple, the most famous of which are the central one, as well as the Wiener-Neustad altar. Another pride of the cathedral is the tomb of Emperor Frederick the Third, who ordered the tombstone thirty years before his own death. This is only a small fraction of the highlights that the cathedral can boast of, so I advise you to see this wonderful place with your own eyes.

Sunday, holidays 13.00 – 16.30

Price entrance ticket is 14.50 euros. For students and visitors over 60 years old, the rate is 12 euros.

2) Imperial Residence Hofburg, Vienna

The name itself already prepares the tourist to immerse himself, at least for an hour or two, during the reign of noble dynasties. How interesting it is to examine the chambers of the emperors, realizing that people actually lived here a couple of centuries ago. The kings who ruled the country had a tradition - each subsequent ruler built his own castle. It is thanks to this that a whole complex of many buildings was formed here, each of which is made in its own unique style. However, this residence boasts more than just buildings. Here you can find unique collections of imperial silver and personal belongings of Elizabeth of Bavaria. Access to the imperial chambers is open, which will surprise tourists with their pomp. There is also the opportunity to visit the largest treasury in the world, which houses symbols of royal power, masterpieces of jewelers from different centuries, as well as treasures of the Order of the Golden Fleece. It should be noted that on Sundays the singing of the famous Viennese boys' choir can be heard from the imperial chapel, which pleases the ear and makes you enjoy the fullness of life.

Opening hours: September – June 9.00 – 17.30

July – August 9.00 – 18.00

The entrance ticket price is:

With a guide 13 euros;

Child 6.5 euros.

3) Mozart House, Vienna

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is rightfully considered a genius in the world of music, because he studied all the directions known in his time, and as a real talent, achieved success in each of them. The composer was a native of Austria and loved his homeland very much. It was here that he composed his masterpieces, lived and loved, learned to express his feelings and experiences through music. In Vienna, Mozart lived with his wife from 1784 to 1787 near St. Stephen's Cathedral. Now the four-story building in which the classic lived is a museum. The first floor is a hall with multimedia installations that create the spirit of the composer's era. There is also a cafe called “Figaro”, which already has long time They make an old house specialty punch. The tourist has at his disposal an elevator that will take you to the top floor, from which your acquaintance with the museum begins. Here is a collection of photographs, paintings, and personal belongings of Mozart, which can answer many questions about the passions and interests of the genius. The third floor contains all the author's musical equipment, as well as concert costumes, scores and manuscripts. And finally, the second floor consists of untouched living rooms, in which the original belongings of the owners have been preserved.

Opening hours: every day 10.00 – 19.00

The entrance ticket costs 10 euros. For children the ticket price is 3 euros.

4) Hohensalzburg Fortress, Salzburg

Since the city of Salzburg gave humanity the brilliant composer Mozart, almost all the sights here perpetuate his name. This fortress is perhaps the only one not associated with the name of the great composer. The fortress was built back in the 11th century and, having survived almost unchanged to this day, is considered a unique architectural monument. This is the best preserved building in all of Europe. There is a collection of medieval weapons, as well as various items used by the Inquisition.

Opening hours: October - April 9.30 – 17.00

May – September 9.00 – 19.00

The entrance ticket costs 5.7 euros. There is a special rate for children of 3.4 euros, and for groups the ticket price is 5.2 euros.

The homeland of great geniuses is worthy of the attention of tourists. I wish you a pleasant holiday in Austria and unforgettable impressions for a long time!

EVERY THURSDAY - ART HISTORY MUSEUM

Pieter Bruegel "Peasant" is one of the first artists who depicts the defenselessness of man and the dominance of nature... Bruegel's interests in winter landscapes are not accidental; the brutality of nature is clearly expressed in his works. Its landscapes are ominous and threatening. He traveled a lot, Bruegel does not have a real depiction of landscapes, he mixes the Brabant and the Alps and we see gloomy olive-colored mountains, sinking boats and ships. The cold snap in 1550 is clearly reflected in the paintings. “Man is almost overwhelmed by nature”...
