What the most unusual hostels in the world look like. Hostel names

If you decide to open your own hostel, but cannot find a suitable name, the examples below, as well as a classification of the main naming strategies will help you choose best option. Thus, this article outlines the basic principles of creating bright and memorable brands for hostels, and also provides many examples of names of mini-hotels throughout Russia.

Principles for constructing hostel names

The brands under which mini-hotels so popular among tourists usually operate are difficult to classify. However, this does not mean that hostel names are formed chaotically, without any strategies. The basic principles for forming the names of such institutions are described in detail below.

  1. Names with direct occurrence of the word “hostel”. First of all, it is worth noting that the owners of mini-hotels use both Russian names, for example “My Hostel” and “Hostels-Rus”, and variants in Latin, for example, “Arena Hostel” and “Interhostel”. Moreover, the latter do not necessarily have to be of foreign origin; some of them are simply transliterations of Russian words. This method allows you to generate interesting options, such as, for example, “Yes! Hostel", "Hostel Bolshoi", etc. However, the name does not necessarily have to be associated with rental housing. Owners of mini-hotels can combine any vocabulary, getting very original options, such as “Oh So Indie Hostel” or “Star Wars hostel”.
  2. Names that include the words “house”, “house”, “hotel”, “room”, etc.. This category of names is also very common. As in the previous case, it all depends on the owner’s imagination - by combining the above words with other vocabulary, you can get bright and interesting names, such as, for example, “AntiDorm”, “Uprav-dom.com”, or more laconic names, for example “Academic Dormitory” or “Economy Class Hotel”. As a rule, the latter are descriptive in nature and attract a certain category of clients seeking, first of all, to save on overnight accommodation.
  3. Other, original titles. This category combines the most large number names. They can be completely different - either related to the activities of mini-hotels or have nothing to do with it. Names such as “Come & Sleep”, “Come & Go” or “Mr. Guest” evoke in potential clients direct associations with the type of services provided in the mini-hotel, while the names “Anchor”, “Phoenix”, “Indigo”, etc. .d. are in no way related to the activities of hostels. However, due to their brightness, the latter can also become recognizable brands and attract tourists from different countries peace.

The hostel is located in the Carleton County Gaol prison building, built more than 150 years ago. You will live in real cells with stone walls and wooden floors - bed linen and lockers are provided. In the morning, all “prisoners” are served breakfast. You can relax in the shared lounge or read a book in the library. If you wish, you can go on a tour of the prison building.

Travelers stay in hostels primarily because of the savings: spending the night in a shared room can sometimes be several times cheaper than renting a separate hotel room. But even if you are not going to save money on your trip, then why not try spending the night in a lighthouse, medieval castle or even... Prison? Below is a selection of the most unusual hostels from around the world.

1. Jumbo Stay, Stockholm.
“In this plane it’s safe to crash!” - says the hostel's slogan. For an amount starting from 400 Swedish kronor (about 1,600 rubles), passengers of the Jumbo Stay airliner are offered luxury seats: here they will find not only comfortable chairs, but also soft beds, computers with the Internet, and stylish dining tables. But you won’t be able to fly anywhere: this hostel plane never leaves Stockholm’s Arlanda Airport.

2.Rua Reidh, Scotland
Not everyone goes on a trip to wander through museums and take photos with iconic landmarks. Many would like to break away from worldly vanities in their travels and find harmony with the natural elements. This is precisely the opportunity that the keepers of the operating Rua Reidh lighthouse provide to their guests: this unusual hotel overlooking the sea is located on a secluded stretch of the north-west coast of Scotland, a few miles from the nearest settlement. A night's dorm room here costs £13.50, with private rooms starting at £38 per night.

3. Burg Altena, Alten (Germany)
Who said that spending the night in hostels is not worthy of high-ranking nobility? In several corners of Europe there are hostels located within the walls of real medieval castles. These include, in particular, Burg Altena - a nine-hundred-year-old castle in German city Altene. By the way, this ancient building is notable not only for its medieval spirit: it was here in 1912 that schoolteacher Richard Schirmann founded the world’s first hostel for travelers. Today you can feel like a duke at a very reasonable price - from 20 euros per night.

In total, the clipper can accommodate about 36 guests.

4.Jail Hostel, Ottawa
The slogan of the Jail Hostel in Ottawa, “A great place to hang,” sounds tricky: it can be understood both as “A great place to hang” and as “A great place to hang.” Until 1972, the building of the current hostel was the main prison of the city. Several times the prison executed especially dangerous criminals by hanging. Now, instead of prisoners, cheerful guests walk along the narrow corridors, and friendly staff have replaced the gloomy guards. A one-day confinement in a multi-occupancy cell here costs about $30.

5.Gyreum, Ireland
In the heart of County Sligo, Ireland, the dome of the Gyreum Hostel rises above the ground. This tent-shaped building with a wooden roof and stone floor once won an award for the best environmental design building of the year. The cost of living in the catacombs starts from $34 per night.

Lighthouse House: California (USA)

Prison rooms: Ljubljana (Slovenia)

Hostel Celica is 20 prison cells under one roof.
