Attractions Map

We have mentioned only a small part of the attractions of the peninsula. Much more is indicated on the map:

It is impossible to be disappointed in the Crimean sights. They are so different - unique corners of nature, picturesque parks, mountain landscapes, luxurious palaces, historical monuments. All this needs to be seen with your own eyes and to understand why Crimea is attractive for you.

Map of the Golden Ring of Crimea, circular routes by car and bus on the highway, on off-road vehicles on dirt roads
posted at the bottom of this overview.
We recommend the first trip to the "world in miniature" along the circular route the Golden Ring of Crimea and recommend a mandatory long stop in Alupka.

Most of the Crimean attractions are located in the southwest, on the Simferopol - Bakhchisarai - Inkerman - Sevastopol - Balaklava - Laspi - Simeiz - Alupka - Miskhor - Yalta - Gurzuf - Partenit - Alushta - Angarsk Pass - Salgirskaya Valley - Simferopol. Overview The Golden Ring of Crimea from any of this point can be traveled in 1 day! Of course, you can go in any direction. But we recommend the first trip so that you arrive in Alupka early. You can also return to your place of residence in the dark.

At night, the trolleybus route Yalta - Alushta - Simferopol is also quite suitable. But during the day in the season you will have to abandon it - it is too busy. The Simferopol - Bakhchisarai - Sevastopol highway is suitable at any time of the day. But there are not many viewpoints on it. The highest density of attractions is still in the south-west of Crimea.

Map of the circular automobile route "The Golden Ring of Crimea" - the main route along the highway (red dots), routes for mountain bikes, and motorized off-road vehicles (blue dots).

Separately, over time, we will analyze the routes for off-road vehicles (from mountain bikes to expedition jeeps). But, unlike the Golden Ring of Crimea, you cannot pass the route by car on the highway in one day. However, it is possible to keep within a day if part of the route with a bicycle at the beginning or at the end is carried out in an electric train, trolleybus, or agree on an auto-transfer.

All our routes are also accessible by public transport. Again, in this case, you will not be able to cope with the Golden Ring of Crimea during daylight hours. It will be necessary either to break it up into loop-like routes to return to your base point, or to spend the night at one of the points of the ring. Agents of apartment bureaus are always at the bus stations around the clock. Inexpensive hostel-type hotels operate directly at bus stations, for example, in Yalta.

Crimea fascinates with its pristine nature. Crimean beauty has always been a source of inspiration for many creative personalities. Plots for many famous and beloved films were filmed here. Beautiful paintings, poems and stories were dedicated to this peninsula, which is called Crimea.

The Crimean peninsula is extremely rich in amazingly beautiful places and sights. While resting on these picturesque shores, do not give up numerous excursions - to cities, ancient palaces and temples, modern parks of culture and recreation.

Don't forget to visit the vibrant and unforgettable waterfalls and canyons. If you have your own car, then all the interesting places of the peninsula will be even more accessible to you. If you like to travel around Russia, then we advise you to read about.

Sights of Crimea - palaces and fortresses

Legendary Crimea - magnificent landscapes, waterfalls and caves, mountains and the sea. The history of this piece of land is full of various events. The military battles unfolding on the territory of the peninsula are reflected in architectural monuments and old fortresses, which are still striking in their grandeur.

The exquisite pearl of the Crimea is the Vorontsov Palace. It seems incredible, but time stops its run in the ancient buildings of the palace, surrounded by a paradise park. A German gardener worked on its design for a quarter of a century. It took twenty years to build the palace itself.

Numerous rooms, and there are more than fifty of them, are decorated with natural stone and wood. All the old furnishings of the palace premises, including the personal belongings of the count's family, have been preserved unchanged.

Vorontsov Palace inside

Ancient canvases adorning the walls of the palace rooms allow you to see the distinguished persons of that era. Now there is peace and quiet.

This memorial estate is located on the territory of Salgirke Park. A small mansion was built back in 1826. The house received this name not in honor of its first owner Naryshkin, but in honor of Prince Vorontsov. He bought this house in 1834.

The appearance of the building combines both oriental and classic European motives.

From European style here is a terrace not too large, which leads to the park, rather original columns and lions, made of marble. The east is here expressed by the second terrace, decorated in the Tatar style.

Genoese fortress in Sudak

The Genoese Fortress is the most famous of the sights of the Crimean peninsula.

The best knightly traditions of the Middle Ages are reflected in the annual festivals that take place on the territory of the ancient fortress. This is the period when any visitor can put on armor to feel like a real knight.

The Vorontsov Palace and the Genoese Fortress are only a small part of the beauties of the peninsula. You can come to visit not only in summer, but also in winter. Winter Crimea is a real Christmas fairy tale that can be seen and appreciated.

Livadia Palace

Crimea is not crowded in spring and summer, even in the autumn months it is still crowded there. But for the majority it will be a discovery that the southern coast of Crimea is in high demand and long winter days and nights. If you are still wondering whether to go to Crimea in winter, we will definitely recommend you to do it. Just read what one of the most attractive South Coast palaces looks like in winter time- Meet the Livadia Palace.

Livadia Palace

In 1861, there was a simple private house here, it was bought by Alexander the Liberator, having given an order for reconstruction. The house was given pomp and pretentiousness, but it did not become a palace worthy of the imperial family. Then, at the beginning of the twentieth century, the Grand Palace was ordered to be demolished and now Nicholas II rules the ball. He hires the architect Krasnov and gives him the order to build a luxurious palace in a short time. Krasnov did not disappoint - in the fall of the next year, the White Palace appeared in Livadia.

The palace architecture is imbued with the spirit of the Italian Renaissance with incredible admixtures of oriental, Byzantine and sometimes even Gothic features.

In 25, the Soviet government gives luxurious Palace at the complete disposal of the people. This is how an ordinary sanatorium for the suffering appears here. So the Palace would come to desolation, if in the final year of the war there was not a conference called Yalta. It was through the spacious halls of Livadiysk that Roosevelt, Churchill and Stalin walked in gloomy thoughts.

This museum is located on the outskirts of Yalta, at the foot of a cliff. First beautiful place liked P. P. Bezrukov, a local resident. The master hewed out wooden fairy-tale characters and exhibited his creation in a forest clearing. However, the Yalta people liked the fairytale heroes, and in 1970 the meadow became an open-air museum.

In addition to the figures carved by the first master, they were joined by other sculptures made by other craftsmen. The exposition expanded. Already grandmothers and mothers brought their children to the meadow, wishing that they also admire the fabulous wooden sculptures.

Having bought one ticket, you can also watch the attraction "The Kingdom of Crooked Mirrors". More than 200 fairy-tale figures are housed among flower beds and alpine slides. Museum workers help children to make sense of the numerous fairy-tale figures.

Kids will easily recognize Baba Yaga with a hut on chicken legs, Pinocchio, the famous three piglets. However, children hardly recognize fairy-tale characters from Ukrainian and foreign literature.

To get to the fairy-tale figures, take a route taxi number 24. An adult ticket costs 200 rubles, a child under 11 pays half, and preschoolers are free.

Arhaderesse - grape paradise

A dozen kilometers from the city of Sudak, almost at the foot of a cape called Meganom, a huge plain with numerous hills and picturesque valleys is comfortably located, a feature of which is that in dry summers this place becomes almost a desert.

This area got its name back in the Middle Ages and began to be called "Arkhaderesse", which means, translated from the Tatar language, "the back of the ravines." In the 19th century, this place attracted the attention of Prince Golitsyn.

His decision was to turn this place into a special vineyard for growing champagne grapes. This territory, where an insane variety of varieties of grapes and almonds successfully grew, occupied almost a hundred hectares. There were such types of grapes as Cabernet, sophisticated Sauvignon, no less unique Muscat.

In order for the products to be stored in the most suitable conditions, wine cellars were built. They were made by a slightly unconventional method - they were not burst into the ground, but, on the contrary, they were covered. At first, the bottom of the future cellar represented the leveled surface of several ravines, then this surface expanded even more and after that only began to overlap the ceiling vaults, which were then filled up.

Such cellars of Arhaderess are still in excellent condition and have three floors in depth. Based on Golitsyn's recipes, unique wines are still produced with the names Lunel-24, Madera No. 21, Rose Muscat, etc.

However, despite all the beautiful aspects of this place, the history of its creation and development is far from joyful. After a while, the creator of this vineyard paradise was completely removed from his managerial position and was banned from entering the estate, and after that all local varieties of fruiting shrubs were also destroyed.

Almost 100 years have passed since these events, and the vineyards have been almost completely restored. Some wine brands are produced exclusively in these areas: "Solnechnaya Dolina", known far beyond the Crimean peninsula.

Crimea water attractions

Bakhchisaray reservoir

The Bakhchisarai reservoir is one of the oldest reservoirs in Crimea. This man-made reservoir was built on the Egizoba gully in 1931.

This magnificent creation of man and nature was created with a specific purpose - in order to be engaged in regular irrigation and water supply of the surrounding territories. Now all these almost two and a half cubic meters of capacity are used only for the first purpose.

Near the Bakhchisarai reservoir there is another very unusual place, which has become almost phenomenal - this is the Kachinsky gate, or another name for this place - the Breakthrough Valley. It is also a body of water ideal for freshwater fishing.

Now it has been given for temporary rental use, and it is specially flooded with many types of fresh fish, and twice a year a specialized competition for catching predatory fish is held.

Waterfall of dead and living water

There is another natural attraction - the Waterfall of Dead and Living Water. This place is located near the cave called "Red". Located nearby locality"Perevalnoe".

Another source gives dead water, with a temperature of no more than 60 degrees. Both sources, as scientists have long noted, have water that is completely different in composition. In the first spring, the water is enriched with salts.

Water park "Banana Republic"

The most popular entertainment center for children and adults under the interesting name "Banana Republic" is located in the Saki district, near the city of Evpatoria.

In the evening, "Banana Republic" is illuminated with bright signs and neon lighting, and decorated with bulbs, signs and lanterns not only the territory itself, but also attractions, water entertainment carousels and swimming pools.

Adzhimushkay quarries

Not far from the city of Kerch are the Adzhimushkay quarries. These are underground mines, which today are considered the most famous memorable places in the history of the Second World War in Crimea.

In the second year since the beginning of World War II, our troops were forced to leave Kerch to the Nazis. Our troops were surrounded near these quarries and, in order to defend their native lands, descended into the depths of the earth and created a military garrison of over 10 thousand soldiers.

Thanks to its endurance, the strictest discipline and organized command, the garrison has become a fairly strong military organization. The Germans seized the wells, threw gas cylinders with asphyxiant gas, but this did not break the powerful Soviet army. Only at the end of the year were the surviving soldiers taken into Nazi captivity.

32 years after the end of the Great Patriotic War, a real historical museum dedicated to the defense of these quarries was opened at this place. The very first guests were the fighters who survived those battles.

Here you can see the recreated places and furnishings of those times down to the smallest detail. Of course, everything was created bit by bit according to historical authentic documents, the memoirs of veterans of that great war.

There are also mass graves, to which every year the Crimeans come to pay tribute to the memory of Soviet soldiers who died for the defense of the quarries.

Ayu-Dag - Bear Mountain

On the southern side of the warm Black Sea coast, between two popular tourist cities - Alushta and sunny Yalta, there is a mountain called Ayu-Dag. Another name for it, more common and known to numerous travelers and guests of the peninsula - Bear Mountain.

This colossus rises more than half a kilometer above sea level, and its total area is more than four kilometers squared. Now this territory is considered a state reserve.

Translated from the Tatar language, the mountain has a completely different name - Holy Mountain. In the early medieval times, it was the center of the Christian faith. A monastery was built on this mountain, inside which there were several temples and there were small settlements of pilgrims.

Ayu-Dag - Bear Mountain

Bear Mountain is a fairly old peak, over 150 million years old. Almost all Crimeans know the romantic legend about this mountain. This is due to the ancient love story of two young people, whose love was considered forbidden. And the lover turned into a bear, which froze forever in the form of a bear, and then became a cold stone block.

Ayu-Dag has just a unique flora and fauna, there are 577 varieties of plants, of which 44 are listed in the Red Book. Also in the Red Book there are 16 different animals that live on Ayu-Dag.

There is nothing wrong with that, but from my own experience I can say that a couple of days are enough to relax on the beach. Then he begins to pull for walks, and the burnt skin requires rest from sunbathing.

So, in order to stock up on vivid impressions of the vacation for years to come, every tourist and traveler needs to know what to see in Crimea. I have compiled a cheat sheet for you from the TOP - 20 most popular places for tourists on the peninsula. If you can't wait to get this free bonus, read the article further!

Crimea what to see necessarily TOP - 20 best places

All tourists are different and everyone's requests for recreation are also different, so I divided interesting places in Crimea into thematic blocks. If you are more attracted by the movement and you want to catch the adrenaline, then you will surely be bored on sightseeing tours, even if they are top-notch and all the guides will recommend them to you as a must-see. Listen to yourself and your desires, and choose a vacation to your liking. For example, I can say for myself that diving 200 meters into the caves seemed to me much more interesting than looking at the luxurious interior of the Crimean palaces.

sights

1. Mount Ai Petri

One should climb Mount Ai Petri for three reasons. The first reason is because observation deck which offers a truly beautiful view of Yalta and the Black Sea coast. If you go to the top as part of excursion groups, the bus will take you straight to the observation deck, a well-paved track leads to it, along which you can also drive by car on your own.

Also on Ai Petri there is an opportunity to climb a hiker, having bought a ticket for the cable car from Alupka. This is the second reason why hundreds of holidaymakers flock here every day. From the booth you can see the famous battlements, which were shown to the whole world by the Soviet director Gaidai in the film about Shurik's adventures.

And the last reason is the caves, which are located on the plateau of the same name. We were on an excursion to Ai Petri in August, and the weather at the summit did not differ much from the whole temperature in Crimea. Even in light summer clothes, we did not freeze. So I think it's superfluous to take warm clothes with you at the height of the season, unless you are going to go down to the caves, where the degree will be lower.

2. Swallow's nest

The swallow's nest has become popular among tourists only due to its unusual location. Indeed, this miniature castle in the Gothic style, inexplicably hovers over a cliff on a 40-meter cliff. In fact, this object has no historical value, no celebrities have lived in it, and it does not even have an interesting background. But it was precisely for his bizarre image that he was painted in pictures, and returning from the Crimea without a photograph against the background of the Swallow's Nest would be considered bad form.

3. Palaces

At all times, the Crimea was a tasty morsel, because of its beautiful natural landscape and mild climate, many rich important people chose the peninsula as a place for the construction of luxurious palaces and royal chambers. Today, no one lives in the palaces; they are used as museums for tourist excursions. In fact, there are many palaces in Crimea and you will hardly have time to cover everything during your vacation, and you should not do this if your goal is not to write a dissertation on medieval architecture) I will tell you about the largest palaces that are most recommended for visiting, based on reviews from tourists.

Livadia Palace

The palace got its beautiful name from the Greek word "livadia" - a lawn, impressed by the beautiful local area, Emperor Nicholas II erected this white palace in the overseas Italian style here. Usually, a visit to the Emine Bair Khosar cave goes in conjunction with the Marble Cave, because they are both located on the Chatyr Dag plateau, and they are separated by a distance of only two kilometers. The cave got its beautiful name thanks to the Tatar dictum - "a well on the side of a mountain", but the guides prefer to call it the Mammoth Cave in honor of the mammoth that fell into its bowels, whose remains are now the main attraction of this place.

Other visitors to the cave that often visited were cave bears, saber-toothed tigers and woolly rhinoceros, their bones resting next to the remains of a mammoth. But traces of our ancestors' stay here were not found, apparently the ancient man was careful and did not burn with the desire to meet these predators here.

In Crimea, there is a place that every vacationer must visit, so as not to forget about the heroism of our ancestors and what price they had to pay for our today's peaceful sky overhead. This place is a museum on the site of a former quarry, where during the war years people lived and defended from the mines, surviving in inhuman conditions and with their last strength fought back the enemy onslaught of the Hitlerite army. It is scary to imagine what the occupied residents had to endure. Along with hunger and lack of drink, the Nazis blew up and filled up the entrances, pumped smoke into underground tunnels, and staged landslides. Of the ten thousand unfortunate occupied residents who descended into the quarry in 1942, several hundred survived.

The underground museum is located near the city of Kerch and it is impossible to miss it, next to it there is a giant memorial monument to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War.

Natural Monuments

Cape Fiolent is the most picturesque creation of nature in Crimea, because a volcano worked on its appearance, today the eruptions of which can be observed in the form of huge blocks of black lava towering over the sea surface. The sight is unforgettable, as all tourists say, and I completely agree with them ...

Demerdzhi is the most mysterious mountain in Crimea and here's why. Firstly, this is not a mountain at all, but a plateau stretching for several kilometers along the Black Sea, near the city of Alushta. The second reason is the bizarre formations in the form of giant stone pillars, reminiscent of the sculptures of warriors, and one of them, due to the similarity with the face of Empress Catherine, is named in her honor. Thirdly, this is the popular place of the Valley of Ghosts, so named because of the frequent fogs descending on the valley. When from under thick clouds only the tops of stone sculptures can be seen, reminiscent of frozen silhouettes of people.

By the way, an interesting fact, at different times of the day, Demerdzhi changes its appearance, each time appearing in front of tourists in a new color, this is due to the amazing composition of the rocks that form mountain range... The Uchan-Su waterfall is considered the highest waterfall in Crimea, but unfortunately its view during the peak season leaves much to be desired, in the summer months it almost dries up and in order not to get disappointed from the trip, it is better to plan a visit to the lower, but operating in summer, Dzhur-Dzhur waterfall.

Dzhur - Dzhur is the most spectacular and beautiful waterfall in Crimea, even the name of the waterfall is gurgling. If you come to Abkhazia and do not ride to the waterfall it will be considered bad form, then while resting in Crimea, you should visit Dzhur - Dzhursky waterfall.
