In Russia they do this at the Embassy, Consulate General and visa centers.
The latter are located in almost all major cities of the Russian Federation.

Types of visa documents

There are several categories of visas required to enter Spain: A, B, C and D. The first two are transit, C is short-term Schengen. Type D - national Spanish, which is rarely used, does not provide the opportunity to visit other European countries, but allows you to stay up to 90 days in any part of Spain, including Palma de Mallorca. Type D visas for Russians also vary.

Urgent visa

If you urgently need to get to Mallorca, a visa can be obtained faster, but for tourism purposes urgent obtaining is rare. It is issued in these situations:

  1. Emergency business meeting.
  2. The need to undergo a course of treatment in a foreign clinic.
  3. Scientific activity.
  4. Participation in sporting events.
  5. Serious condition, illness or death of a close relative.

It is necessary to attach a letter justifying all the reasons for purchasing tickets to Spain and back to Russia.

Customs regulations

Do you need a visa to travel to Mallorca this year? How to apply for and obtain a Schengen visa to Spain on your own? Read about our experience of obtaining a Spanish Schengen visa.

Read in the article:

Do you need a visa to Mallorca?

Yes, Russians need a Schengen visa to visit the island of Mallorca. If you do not have a valid Schengen multiple entry visa, you will need to obtain a Spanish visa.

Unfortunately, by the time of the trip to Mallorca, our Schengen visas had already expired, and Masha had never had one before. In addition, in our previous applications for a Schengen visa, we had never gone through the biometrics procedure (fingerprinting and photography), which means this was what awaited us... So, let’s go get visas and talk about our experience of obtaining them.

You can apply for a visa to Spain in Moscow at the Spanish Consulate, through visa centers, and even with delivery to your home or work through.

However, we were not in Moscow and there was no desire to go specifically to Moscow with a small child to register it and then receive it. We were lucky - the vfs.Global visa center was in our city accepting documents for a visa to Spain.

But before applying for a Schengen visa, you must first buy air tickets, book hotels, arrange insurance, take photographs and prepare all documents.

What you need to get a visa to Spain

Flights to Mallorca

We purchased air tickets in advance at a very good sale on the website Aviasales

Hotel reservations in Mallorca

When planning our trip, we put together a travel itinerary around Mallorca by rental car. Accordingly, we booked not one hotel, but three - in Palma Nova near Palma de Mallorca in the southwest of the island, in Playa de Muro near Port de Alcudia in the north and in Cala de Or in the southeast...

All hotels are booked by best prices through the wonderful search engine RoomGuru

Insurance to Spain

A Schengen visa requires medical insurance with a coverage amount of at least 30,000 euros and a fifteen-day supply after the end date of the trip. We always issue insurance online on the website. Indicate the country ("Spain" or "All Schengen countries"), the number and age of travelers and travel dates. An additional 15 days will be added automatically to the policy. The insurance policy for all three of us cost us less than 20 euros, and its registration took 5-7 minutes.

Photo requirements for a Spanish visa

As I already wrote, photo requirements may differ slightly among the consulates of different Schengen countries.

To obtain a Spanish visa, you need a photograph not just with a light background, but with a white one. In normal professional photo laboratories, where photographs are printed for documents, they should know this. The photographer immediately asked us what kind of Schengen visa a photograph was needed for - there were no problems. The rest of the requirements for the photo are standard - 3.5 x 4.5 cm, color, matte, without borders, oval and corner, head size from crown to chin ~ 3 cm, face occupies 70-80% of the photo, etc.

List of documents for a Spanish visa

Below is an approximate list of documents that need to be provided to obtain a Schengen visa to Spain. But before completing the documents, be sure to check the official up-to-date information on the website of the Spanish Consulate. We submitted documents to the vfs.Global visa center.

  1. Completed application form for a Schengen visa. It is better to fill it out according to the sample posted on the website of the Spanish Embassy. We applied for a multiple-entry visa for a year.
  2. A passport with a validity period of at least 3 months after completion of the trip and at least 2 blank pages. Sometimes photocopies of all pages of the international passport and photocopies of issued Schengen visas for the last 3 years are required.
  3. Copies of completed pages of the internal Russian passport.
  4. Air tickets or other confirmation of the route (train tickets, printed route on a map when traveling by car). Printed by us electronic air tickets from the site Aviasales came without any questions.
  5. Confirmation of residence: printed hotel reservations or invitations from residents of the country. As we have already said, some consulates require confirmation of 100% payment for hotels and a fax on hotel letterhead confirming the reservation. But for a Spanish visa the requirements are not so strict. Printed reservations of our hotels from the RoomGuru website it also turned out to be quite enough.
  6. An insurance policy issued in just 5-7 minutes also came up.
  7. Certificate from the place of study or work about the position held, leave granted for the duration of the trip and the average monthly salary (on company letterhead). It is desirable that the salary be at least 1,000 euros in ruble equivalent. We have registered an LLC, so I wrote out a certificate for myself and indicated the required salary. Lena was written in the application form that she is a freelancer.
  8. Confirmation of solvency. If you are not working, cannot obtain a certificate from work, or the certificate indicates a lower salary (and sometimes in addition to the certificate from work), a bank statement on cash flows for the last 3 months is required. In addition to the movement of funds, the account should have funds available in the amount of approximately 50-70 euros per person for each day of the planned trip. If there are not enough funds, then it is printed sponsorship letter from the person sponsoring your trip, with the provision of his documents confirming his solvency. We attached bank statements with the documents showing the flow of funds for the last 3 months and the amount in the account at the rate of about 70 euros per person for the entire trip. Some banks provide such a certificate immediately, but in some you will have to order and wait up to 2 weeks for it. Don't delay!
  9. Confirmation of intention to return home. Typically, such documents are a Certificate of Employment and round-trip air tickets. But sometimes additional confirmation is required in the form of documents for a car, real estate, marriage and birth certificates... We did not provide anything except air tickets.
  10. Documents for the child. For one-year-old Masha, we additionally submitted her birth certificate with a copy and notarized mutual permission for the child to travel with the second parent.
  11. Color photograph 3.5 x 4.5 cm - 1 piece, meeting the requirements of the consulate.

Cost of a Schengen visa to Spain

A Spanish visa costs 35 euros (official visa fee from the Spanish consulate) plus the vfs.Global service fee - about another 20 euros. Children under 6 years of age are exempt from paying both the visa fee and the service fee. Accordingly, we paid a little more than 100 euros for the two of us and Masha, with an additional SMS notification about the status of the review. We received a copy of the service agreement and a payment receipt.

Document submission procedure and biometrics

Submitting documents for a Spanish visa at the visa center turned out to be extremely simple and fast. No pre-registration is required. We arrived at the visa center with a prepared package of documents. There was one person in front of us - we only waited about five minutes. After studying and accepting all the documents by the employee, we paid the visa and service fee, we were invited to the biometrics procedure. The biometrics took a little longer - each finger needs to be applied to the scanner quickly and with a certain amount of pressure, and we did it several times. If the skin on your fingers is very dry, moisten it with a special lotion.

Obtaining a visa to Spain

During the week-long waiting period, we received several SMS - about sending documents, about their receipt at the Spanish Consulate, about processing and returning to the visa center. If everyone had to be present when submitting documents, then one person with the contract and receipt, all documents and confirmation of relationship in relation to the other applicants is enough to receive it.

All that remains is to print out the received envelope and find out with excitement whether visas are stuck in the passports and what kind... We were given a multiple visa, but instead of the requested year, only for 6 months. Well, still better than refusal or short-term

Mallorca (Mallorca) is a Mediterranean island belonging to Spain. The country is part of the Schengen zone, so visiting the island follows rules similar to those for entering Spain itself. To visit the island in 2019, Russians need a visa to Majorca, which is a standard Schengen visa. The document can be obtained through a travel agency when purchasing a trip or independently.

Visas are issued at the Embassy and Consulate General, as well as through Visa centers(VC). The latter option is convenient for residents of regions who do not have the opportunity to visit Spanish diplomatic missions. CCs are located in the largest Russian cities: Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, Samara, Rostov-on-Don and others.

Types of visas

For several years now, the authorities of Mallorca have been considering the issue of easing the visa regime for Russians, but in 2019 everything will definitely remain unchanged. Schengen, opened at the Spanish diplomatic mission, will allow you to visit other countries, for example, neighboring France or Portugal. In addition to Schengen, the Spanish Embassy issues national visas.

Spanish visas for Russians are Schengen (type “C”) and national (type “D”). Schengen is suitable for tourist trips, visiting relatives or friends, business visits, and transit. This is a short-term visa with a travel duration of up to 3 months. This type of visa is divided into tourist, private, business, educational, sports, transit, depending on the purpose of the trip.

A national visa, along with a Schengen visa, allows you to move freely throughout Europe, and also gives its holder more extensive residence opportunities - a foreigner will be able to stay in Mallorca for up to 6 months.

Tourist visa

To holiday in Mallorca you need documentation:

If the trip is of a business nature, a letter of invitation is being prepared from the Spanish partner, which indicates the purpose and length of the visit, the details of the host party, and guarantees for paying the applicant’s expenses.

In case of a private trip You will need an invitation from an individual. The document is drawn up in free form, indicating information about the guest, the exact time frame of the trip, and the address of residence. The letter itself is certified by the police commissariat (if the inviting party permanently resides in Spain). If the inviting party has real estate in Spain, but does not reside permanently in the country, then an extract from the register of private property (Nota Simple) is attached to the invitation.

For children

If the whole family goes to the island, then you need to prepare some more paperwork for the child. First of all, this is a birth certificate. If the surnames of the child and the accompanying person (for example, the mother) do not match, a document confirming family ties will be required, usually a certificate of change of surname.

If a child travels without parents, then a minor from Russia (from mom and dad) is prepared with notarization. The same document will also be needed in situations where the child travels with only one parent (consent is obtained from the remaining parent).

Children over 14 years of age leave the Russian Federation using personal foreign passports; children under 14 years of age must be included in their parents’ documents.

Urgent visa

In force majeure circumstances, the application may be considered expeditiously. Applications for urgent entry documents are accepted only at the Moscow Exhibition Center. Applicants who are going to Mallorca for the purpose of:

  • Business, urgent business meetings;
  • Treatments according to medical indications;
  • Scientific activities;
  • Cultural or sporting events.

An urgent visa is also issued in the event of the death or serious illness of a relative living in Mallorca. Applications for urgent tourist visas are considered only in the most exceptional cases.

To obtain an urgent visa, the following must be attached to the main package of papers:

  1. Paid return tickets;
  2. A covering letter justifying the reasons for issuing an urgent visa.

When a visa is issued in less than 24 hours, courier delivery is additionally paid. An urgent visa is usually issued for a period of up to 10 days.

Registration procedure

The applicant has the right to apply for a visa in one of the following ways:

  1. Contact the VC with previously prepared documents, and the application is submitted according to the principle of territorial division.
  2. Visit the consulate and hand over the documentation in person. You can sign up on the website spainvac-ru.com. A long-term visa is issued exclusively at the consulate.
  3. Order mobile biometrics by preparing documents in advance. Visa center employees will arrive at any place convenient for the applicant, take biometric data and accept visa documents.

To obtain Schengen, the applicant must undergo fingerprinting and take a digital photo. Children under 12 years of age are exempt from providing biometrics. Biometric data is stored in the database for 5 years, after which time the procedure will have to be repeated. For the convenience of travelers, many Spanish Visa Centers provide the “Mobile Biometrics” service, when a specialist with the necessary equipment comes to the applicant’s work or home and carries out all the necessary procedures.

Consular fee

You will have to pay a visa fee for the entry document, and an additional service fee when applying to the VC. For tourist Schengen visa fee is 35 EUR. An increased fee of 80 EUR is charged for issuing an urgent visa. The service fee for preparing documentation is another 35 EUR. Courier delivery and mobile biometrics, if necessary, are paid separately.

Registration period

The Spanish consulate reviews the application on average within 5-10 days. The decision on each application is made individually. If a complete set of documentation is provided that fully satisfies the requirements of the diplomatic mission, as a rule, the period for issuing a visa does not exceed 5 days.

Visa validity period

The validity periods for both short-term and long-term visas are standardized and the same for all Schengen countries. For document “C” this period is limited to 6 months, for document type “D” – 12 months. The number of days allowed to spend in Mallorca is 90 and 180 days respectively.

If the applicant has previously opened a Schengen visa, the consulate may approve a multiple-entry visa for one year with the possibility of staying in the country for 180 days in six months.

On the border

There are two ways to get to the island: air and water. There is no regular direct air service between Russia and Mallorca, but there are flights from Moscow to Palma de Mallorca charter flights several airlines. For independent travelers, a flight with a transfer in Barcelona is preferable. In addition, passenger ships can be reached from mainland Spain by sea.

When going through passport control you must present foreign passport with a visa. Border guards may inquire about the financial well-being of the traveler, so you need to have supporting documents with you. Children traveling with only one parent must obtain consent to leave the Russian Federation.

As in any Schengen country, having a visa does not guarantee unhindered entry to the island; the final decision is made by border guards.
