From my own experience, I must say that this beach is not very good for small children, or you need to keep them in sight, as it has a rather sharp descent and becomes deep already a couple of meters from the shore.

The next beach of Lloret de Mar is Fenals. It is located in a cozy and quiet bay, surrounded by rocky capes with green pine trees, there is no wind at all. The length of Fenals is seven hundred meters, and in terms of cleanliness and comfort it is not inferior to the main beach of the city. Fenals is an ideal beach for lovers of a calm and quiet holiday, without the hustle and bustle. The water here is crystal clear; it is advisable to enter the sea in special shoes, because the shore is strewn with small shells. The entrance to the sea is steep, deep water immediately begins, you only need to walk two or three meters. And finally, the third important advantage of the former fishing settlement is its convenient geographical location. Lloret de Mar is located 75 km from the administrative center of Catalonia, literally half an hour's drive away large city Girona, and after just a hundred kilometers, you can find yourself on the border with France.

Story

The first written mention of this point on the map of Europe dates back to 966. Then locality bore the name Loredo. According to the most popular hypothesis, the name comes from the Latin lauretum - laurel grove. It is the mentioned subtropical tree that is the symbol of the city and is even depicted on its coat of arms.

The 11th century was marked by the construction of the San Juan Castle, which became a strategically important site in the defense of the coast and its inhabitants from attacks by neighbors and pirates. The population was mainly engaged in fishing and trade, which was in keeping with the spirit of the times and allowed Lloret to gradually expand, as well as establish strong ties with other cities in the region.

However, real economic growth here began much later, when at the end of the 18th century, monarch Charles III, among other reforms, decided to allow trade between Spain and its colonies in the New World. Local merchants appreciated the prospects and invested money in shipbuilding, thanks to which they increased their fortunes and acquired beautiful mansions, simultaneously donating money for the construction of churches and schools. By the beginning of the last century, the medieval village was completely transformed, turning into an attractive example of European urban planning. However, it took several more decades for local authorities to fully realize all the advantages of the recreational industry of Lloret de Mar and reorient themselves to the needs of vacationers.

The sea is clean and transparent, but you should swim with caution, since a cliff begins a short distance from the shore (50-100 m). Swimming beyond the installed buoys is not recommended even for those who feel confident in the water, and this is not only due to the kilometer depth, there is a risk of being caught by the current, which will carry the unwary swimmer out to the open sea. But this does not mean that in Lloret de Mar you will be bored at the edge of the surf - the flat sandy bottom allows both adults and children to safely enter the water. In addition, lifeguards are on duty on the beach during the day.

There is a belief: if a person stands next to the pedestal, looks in the same direction as the bronze figure, holding its foot, he will see the path to making his dream come true. It’s worth going up to Dona Marinera even for those who don’t believe in miraculous wish fulfillment, because the site offers a beautiful view of the sea.

High on the rocks is another iconic building of Lloret de Mar - the San Juan Castle, the same age as the first settlement. Of course, its walls, under the influence of time and the elements, have lost their former indestructibility, but the structures that have survived to this day have been restored, so tourists have the opportunity not only to see the ancient fortress from afar, but also to visit inside.

Castell d'en Plaja also looks impressive, although this building is not a castle - the medieval stylization project was commissioned by industrialist Narcis Plaja to one of the Girona architects in 1935. The building is still privately owned and closed to the public, but this does not prevent it from being decorated photographs of vacationers and souvenirs.

But the Chapel of St. Quirze (Ermita San Quirze) and the Church of St. Roman are really historical heritage region and deserve the attention of visitors to the city of Lloret de Mar. The first is an example of traditional rural architecture of Catalonia, so it looks strict and laconic.
